What say you when everyone’s gone,

When no lions, puffins, sharks roam the Earth,

Land, sea, and sky devoid of life that

Once coloured forests, deserts, and rivers?

Will you stand still and watch it all,

When owls screech for help and fish rot alive?

Are their sufferings not enough to demand

Your protection from ignorant people?

Say what you will about Mother Nature,

But it won’t change the fact that she’s wounded.

No, when her helpless children are gone,

She will cease to exist too, by which time

We humans will have to fend for ourselves.

Time is ticking, and the end is approaching.

Unless we collectively vow to stop,

Our assaults on this rich, abundant world,

We will be looking at our own extinction.
